IMG_6716Kumihimo is an ancient Japanese technique of braiding dating back to the 8th or 9th century.  It was traditionally used with fibers to make belts or ties for Samurai, Ninja & kimonos.  Several years ago a designer discovered that you could braid with beads and create beautiful work.
Both Kim & Aly work with a marudai which is the traditional Japanese method of working kumihimo.  It is so relaxing once you get into the rhythm of the braid.  The marudai  stands on the floor leaving both hands free to braid.  The marudais are made by Braiders Hand in the great Pacific Northwest.
